Over the last couple of years Aegis Metal Framing has been developing our next generation of software. This new 3-D modeling program brings together roof truss layout and panel framing into one, unified program. For Aegis fabricators this means an "all-in-one", whole structure model.

The new modeling tool, Steel Engine, couples the power of AutoCAD Architecture (ACA) and our Aegis Design program to deliver a 3-D model of steel framed trusses and walls. With Steel Engine, users will be able to take truss and panel design from initial layout through finished "shop drawings", all within a single program. And, by remaining within the AutoCAD environment, designers will have the flexibility to personalize shop drawings utilizing the full palette of AutoCAD Architecture tools.

Steel Engine - One Truss

For more than two years now, developers at Aegis and parent company MiTek have been making steady progress building our next-gen software tool. This joint effort spans the Globe, from the United Kingdom to South Africa to St. Louis and Denver, taking advantage of MiTek's truly international resource base. No other competitor in the building component industry can match our depth and breadth of software development skills.

As mentioned in a previous issue of Steel eNotes, Steel Engine will be the tool to help Ultra-Span fabricators in defining the BIM processes and integrating your work with other members of a BIM team. Steel Engine users will be able to produce a complete cold formed truss and/or panel model which can be combined with the design work of other subcontractors and trades to allow for quick, efficient compatibility and interference checks.

Steel Engine - Wall Trusses

Aegis fabricators who are interested in learning more about the power of Steel Engine are invited to join us for a webinar demonstration of this exciting new tool. You will be receiving an email invitation in early December for the event which will be held Thursday, December 16 at 2:00pm EST.

As we look into the New Year, we will be coming to completion of our Release 1 version. We anticipate that we will be able to make available this next generation software offering sometime in the second quarter.
