“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.”
-Friedrich Nietzsche, 19th century German philosopher

Nietzsche’s quote pretty well sums up 2009. Undoubtedly, it was a challenging year for all of us participating in the construction market, and one we do not need to re-visit anytime soon.

Despite the significant challenges of the last twelve months, we at Aegis Metal Framing are optimistic about the future. We are thankful for the hard work and dedication of our fabricator partners who have persevered, and are well positioned to grow as the construction market gains traction. The positive “glimmers of hope” we continue to hear from many fabricators are encouraging, though no one is expecting a miraculous turnaround quite yet.

2009 was a year of many accomplishments for Aegis Metal Framing. Allow me to highlight just a few:

  • MiTek completed its acquisition of Aegis Metal Framing, bringing our organization into the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies
  • Totally gutted and renovated 40,000 sq ft of plant and office and built a 6,000 sq ft addition at our Edenton, NC facility. All in fewer than 2 months!
  • Completely dismantled, re-located, and installed 5 high-speed roll forming lines—all in an incredible 2 month span! Totally unheard of in roll forming circles.
  • Recorded zero injuries and literally no quality rejections in 8 months of full production.
  • Launched V8.1 of the Aegis Apogee suite of software—replete with many new enhancements and productivity tools.
  • Increased development staff and achieved substantial milestones for Steel Engine, our next generation software package.
  • Reduced average turnaround time for truss seals, connection details, and The Works by 14%, 9% and 25% respectively
  • Expanded Aegis outside sales force and dramatically increased number Architect/Engineer calls and continuing education presentations
  • Launched new catalogs, social media/networking sites, and numerous other new marketing initiatives.

Whew! Not bad in only twelve months!

Better times are ahead in 2010, and I can assure you Aegis will “keep the pedal to the metal” to bring you the finest products, software, and engineering services in the cold-formed steel market.

Thanks to all our Aegis fabricator partners--and to the architects, engineers and contractors who work with them--for allowing Aegis Metal Framing to be part of your Building Team!
